Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a facility?

*No, we are currently a non-profit 501c3 foster based rescue.

What does being a "foster based" rescue mean?

 * We rely on foster families to open their home and hearts to a rescue dog until that dog can be adopted into their permanent furever home.

If I become a foster for one of your rescue dogs, do I have to adopt the dog?

*No. You will temporarily house the dog in your home while we help promote the dog for adoption and in turn you have now saved two lives. The dog you took into your home and a stray dog in the community who needs help because a kennel was freed up at our local animal shelter.  Butts Mutts will provide everything needed to care for your foster dog.

I want to adopt a Butts Mutt but not sure what to do?

 * WONDERFUL! The first step is to fill out our adoption application. You will select the dog you are interested in or if you are unsure which dog is best for you, then you will fill out the general adoption application. One of our dedicated volunteers will process your application and be in touch typically within 72 hours.

I want to come meet a dog I saw on your website.

 * We love that you want to meet one of our dogs but before that happens we ask that you first fill out the adoption application. Once your application is approved, we will then set up a scheduled time with one of our volunteers to meet the dog.

Why do I have to fill out the adoption application first before I can meet the dog?

*Your application will tell us a lot about what type of dog you may be looking for and due to our and your time management we want to make sure you are meeting the best dog for YOU!

*As a volunteer only rescue we are not always available to meet you, so it's best that we schedule a time to meet you.

 * Because we do not have our own facility we need to make arrangements with the foster family, if the dog is in foster care. Or if the dog is currently housed at Butts County Animal Control, we need to schedule a time to meet you there.  The staff at the shelter is very busy and many times, may not be able to assist with meet n greets.

What are your adoption fees for one of your adoptable dogs?

 * The fees can vary depending on the vet care needed for each individual dog. We keep our adoption fees reasonable and ALL of our dogs will receive age appropriate basic vet care before being adopted. Our adoption fees help us recoup a small portion of the vet services the dog has received. Dogs will be brought current on rabies and basic vaccines, spayed/neutered, heartworm test, starter heartworm prevention, fecal and a microchip prior to being adopted.

Can I bring my dog to you if I can no longer take care of it?

*No, not exactly. We do not have a facility to house dogs in our care and will need to locate a foster family first. In order for us to help there are many different factors and questions that need to be answered.  Please refer to our section about "REHOME REQUEST" requirements.

Do you offer a discounted low cost spay/neuter?

 * YES!!!!! If you live in Butts County (proof required) then we offer a $40 spay/neuter special. You pay $40 and we will cover the remaining surgical cost of the surgery.

Does my dog need a current rabies to be fixed?

*Yes. You will need to provide proof of current rabies or for an additional cost of the rabies it can be added on to the Spay/Neuter $40 special.

Why has my appointment request to have my dog spayed/neutered not been scheduled?

*Did you pay the $40 payment through the link provided when you signed up?

** Yes. Someone will be in touch with you as soon as a slot opens up.

** No. You will need to pay the $40 first, then we will contact you to get your  appointment scheduled.

**If you do not live in Butts County we are unable to schedule your appointment due the demands needed within Butts County. Please contact your local animal control to find out about other low cost spay/neuter clinics that are available in your area.

I have sent you an email or message through Facebook messenger, why have I not heard back from you?

 * We are a volunteer based only rescue. That means we have a small team of AMAZING people who donate their personal time to help run this rescue therefore we are juggling many things in our lives and may not be able to respond as quickly as needed at times. Be patient please, we will get back to you as soon as possible.  If you have not heard from us within 72 hours, please send another message.

I want to volunteer to walk dogs, what do I need to do?

 * Because we do not have our own facility you will need to become an approved dog walker volunteer through Butts County Animal Control. Please contact Butts County Animal Control to be approved.

I can't volunteer but would like to help. What can I do to help?

*Without donations from our supporters we could not do what we do so THANK YOU! Donations can be monetary, towels, blankets, dog food, medication, toys, dog crates, sharing our social media posts, etc.

Where can I drop off donations for you?

*Because we do not currently have our own facility, donations may be dropped off at Butts County Animal Control, 158 Bibb Station Road, Jackson, GA.

I thought Butts Mutts was the animal control for Butts County?

*NO! Butts Mutts is a non-profit dog rescue that helps the dogs that come through as strays through Butts County Animal County and once the stray hold is up and the dog is not reclaimed, we are then able to help.

Can you help with my cat/kittens?

*No. We are a dog only rescue but please reach out to our amazing cat rescue that helps with the cats in Butts County, Klassy Kats of Butts County.

Do you have local events that I may attend?

*YES! We typically have an annual fundraiser called FURBALL that is open to all adults who would like to join us. Check our social media pages and website in the early spring for announcements about this event.

 * We also have other family events throughout the year so continue to follow our social media sites and websites for announcements to those events.

I would like to sponsor an event or an adoption fee with your rescue, what do I do?

*THANK YOU! Please send us an email and our sponsorship volunteer coordinator will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
